Storm Season: Make Room in the Garage and Protect Your Things

Storm season is here. Make room in the garage for the car, put away loose outdoor gear and keep your stored things dry.

Storm season brings hail, heavy rain and strong winds to the Redlands. A bit of planning now protects your car, your outdoor gear and the things you keep in storage.

Get the car under cover

A few minutes of hail can do a lot of damage to a car parked in the driveway. If your garage is full of boxes, spare furniture or gear, it can’t protect the car. Moving those things into a storage unit frees up the space.

Put away what you don’t use often

Strong winds pick up anything left loose. Spare outdoor furniture, camping gear, kids’ bikes and toys, and anything else sitting on the veranda or in the yard is safer stored.

Keep stored things dry

  • Make sure everything is completely dry before it goes in.
  • Raise items off the floor on pallets or timber slats.
  • Use plastic tubs with lids for paperwork, photos and anything you can’t replace.
  • Add moisture absorbers for longer stays over summer.

If you need space after a storm

If storm damage means repairs at home, a storage unit gives you somewhere to keep furniture and belongings while the work is done. Our units range from 2 × 1.3 m to 3 × 6 m, and every unit is drive-up, so you can back right up to the door and load straight in. Our guide to choosing a unit size will help you pick.

Check your insurance

Not every contents policy covers things in storage. Check yours before you move anything in.
